BEATTY, THOMAS

1937 – 2024

Thomas Louis Beatty, 87, of Jasper, Texas passed away September 14, 2024.

Thomas Louis Beatty was born on September 13, 1937, to the late Frances Armstrong Beatty and Carl Beatty in Jasper, Texas. He graduated from J.H. Rowe High School in 1956, where he excelled in both track and football, earning the nickname “Champ” for his powerful athletic abilities. Known for his hard-hitting style on the football field, he was admired for his strength and determination.

After high school, Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the late 1950s. He served aboard the USS Yorktown and was stationed at various bases along the coast of California, as well as at Yokosuka Naval Station in Japan.

On April 10, 1962, Thomas married Lucille Lewis, his beloved wife of 54 years, who preceded him in death on August 27, 2016. Together, they raised a family filled with love, faith, and strength. Thomas is survived by his four loving daughters: Cynthia E. McFarland (Michael) of Crowley, Texas, Saundra R. Hector (Rod) of Frisco, Texas, Frances L. Saunders (Gary) of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Amanda D. DeHorney (Robert) of Midlothian, Texas. He also leaves behind his son, Antonio L. Beatty of Jasper, Texas.

Thomas was baptized at an early age and was a dedicated member of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as an active choir member and demonstrated profound biblical knowledge. A true conversationalist, he captivated those around him with his stories and insights, often sharing life lessons that enriched the lives of others. Known for his immense wisdom and knowledge, Thomas could have achieved anything he set his mind to. His extraordinary understanding encompassed numerous subjects, including sports statistics and the Bible, which he knew thoroughly from Genesis to Revelation.

In addition to his many talents, Thomas had a deep love for auto mechanics and was passionate about natural healing and holistic health tips. His artistic ability and impressive dance moves brought joy to family gatherings, while his witty humor kept everyone entertained.

After 35 years of dedicated service, Thomas retired from Temple Inland. His career was marked by hard work and loyalty, traits he carried throughout his life.
