William “Bill” Harold Englund, 88, died March 13, 2024, in Bend, Ore. surrounded by family.
Bill was born in Seattle, Wash. on March 9, 1936, the son of Harold Englund and Nellie (nee Vanderspek) Englund. He grew up on Bainbridge Island, Wash. with his younger sister, Marilyn Englund Russell.
After graduating from Bainbridge High School, he attended Washington State University until entering the Navy. He returned after his service to graduate from the University of Washington. Bill had a long career as a commercial airline pilot for United Airlines.
He met and married Marilyn Englund in 1972 becoming the stepfather to her three children. They settled in Portland, Ore. and enjoyed many adventures together. They were married for 48 years until Marilyn’s passing in 2020.
Bill had a passion for traveling, rebuilding player pianos, Washington State ferries, and his family. He is survived by three children, Larry Ausman (Joanne), Pam Loehner, Greg Ausman (Sara); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Janet Welter; and his beloved dog, Tinker.
