Longtime Long Beach resident Ernest (Ernie) D. Greci passed away on May 26, 2021 at the age of 96. He is preceded in Death by his loving wife Sophie Greci and is survived by his 8 children: Sharon (Norman) Beko, Alan (Rena Fanucchi) Greci, John (Karla Brown) Greci, Tom (Heather McKay) Greci, Barbara (Mario) Burdick, Linda (Dan) Gannon, Cathy (Bill) Jones and Jim (Kathy Wantz) Greci, 16 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. Ernie was born in Canastota NY and joined the Navy at the age of 17 after getting permission from his father. Ernie served his country honorably in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Yorktown, USS Long Beach, served as Chief Master at Arms at Miramar Naval Station and was Project Manager overseeing the construction of the Miramar Links Golf Course and then served as Manager of the course. He finished out his 27 year Naval career as Master Chief Quartermaster aboard the USS Long Beach.
Following his naval career he worked and retired from Pitney Bowes as a senior technician until his retirement in 1990. He and Sophie then enjoyed lots of long road trips to visit family, attend ship reunions and also traveled abroad to his father’s birthplace in Italy. He was a long-time golfer and member of Long Beach Navy Golf Course and the American Legion in Lakewood and Cypress.
