1939 – 2021

John Giovacchino, age 81, of Oxford, CT, formerly of Ansonia, passed away peacefully in his home on August 18th. John is reunited with his beloved wife Betty (Mumley), who he was married to for almost 50 years. John was born to the late John and Caroline Giovacchino. He served proudly in the United States Navy. After his discharge, he began his family with Betty in Oxford. John worked as machinist, self-employed contractor, and mill manager before he retired. He also served with the Quaker Farms Fire Department. He was an avid woodworker, who enjoyed spending time in his workshop. John is survived by his three children, John P. Giovacchino of Seymour; Cindy Giovacchino of Oxford; and Jeff Giovacchino and his wife Deborah of Oxford; his grandson Alex Rushworth; and step-grandson Christopher Fourtin. He is also survived by his sister Carol Edwards of Oxford and several in-laws and other family and friends. John was a man of few words, but continually showed his love for those he cared about. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, August 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford, followed by internment in the Brookside Cemetery in Oxford. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Quaker Farms Fire Department or St Jude’s Hospital.
