Roger W. Henry age 77, of Millersburg, Ohio passed away Wednesday July 3, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness.
Roger was born September 2, 1946, in Millersburg, Ohio and was the son of Robert J. and Lovie (Fry) Henry. He was a 1965 graduate of West Holmes High School. Roger was a Veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict from 1966 to 1969, he was stationed on the USS Yorktown and the USS Oriskany. The USS Yorktown ship oversaw the recovery of the Apollo 8 capsule from the ocean and the “Fighting Lady” as the Yorktown was called, was in the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! Roger received the National Defense Service Medal; Viet Nam Service Medal/Two Bronze Stars; Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Roger was a brake press operator at Flexible and at C&C. Roger was a longtime member of the Loudonville American Legion. He loved fishing, loved to talk, and tell stories, go to the movies, and play the lottery. His grandpa burgers will be missed and try to be recreated by his children.
Roger is survived by his two children, Jennifer Blakemore of Toledo, Oh and Bubba (Racheal) Henry of Trail, Ohio; seven grandchildren Anthony, Cameron, Killian, Allison, KJ, Alexis “Lovie Girl” and Jemma; two brothers Robert (Faith) Henry and Ron Henry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by parents, his son-in-law Jeffrey Blakemore, sister-in-law Linda Henry, niece Mary Henry.
Funeral services will be 11 am Monday July 8th at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Killbuck VFW and Millersburg American Legion.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital or the Holmes County Veterans Services.
