James Watzek

1946 – 2016

James Watzek, born Feb. 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Port Huron, MI on Aug. 25.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Piland of Nevada City, CA and Bonnie Watzek-Smith of Pioneer, CA. He was also a beloved brother to Adam, Albert and Joe Watzek who all reside in the Cincinnati area where James was born and raised. James served in the US Navy on the USS Yorktown Air Craft Carrier from 1964 -1968 during the Vietnam War. This tour of duty began his love of these ships as he served as a docent later in life on the Yorktown’s sister ship the USS Hornet Museum. He was a proud Teamster (Local 315) and served as a shop steward for many years. He drove for Safeway for 25 plus years and finished his truck driving career with Central Cement in Berkley. James lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and Vacaville for 40 years. He spent the last 10 years of his retirement in his home on the Black River in Port Huron, MI.
