MACKO, THOMAS

1947 – 2023

Thomas A Macko, 76, of Athens GA, formerly of Binghamton NY, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Rita A. (Leonard) Macko; son Stanley J. Macko, daughter Colleen M. Macko, sister Tina (Macko) Ciotoli, brother & sister-in-law Mike & Cindy Leonard and sister-in-law Peggy Vavrina. He is predeceased by his parents Stanley & Anna Macko and his sister Elizabeth “Betty” (Macko) DePaolo.
Tom was a graduate of Chenango Valley Jr. Sr. High School (class of 1964) and proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years (1965-1969). He was aboard the USS Yorktown when the ship picked up the crew and capsule of the Apollo 8 mission in 1968. He worked for Jackson Jordan as a railroad mechanic for the first half of his career, then worked at IBM in Endicott as a machinist for the second half. He spent his retirement in Hampstead, NC then for the last 14 years in Athens GA. He enjoyed golfing, yardwork, the Georgia Bulldogs and spending time with his large extended family.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, January 13, 2023, 9:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1049 Chenango Street, Binghamton, NY. Tom will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Johnson City, NY.
