Robert Foelber

1923 – 2017

Robert Eugene Foelber of Seal Beach, California passed away peacefully in his home on December 17, 2017. He was 94 years of age. Robert was born on December 10, 1923 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

He received his undergraduate degree from Bethany College in Mankato, Minnesota, his Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and his Theological certification from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

Robert married Kathleen Larsen in 1947. She preceded him in death in the year 2009. Together, the couple raised a loving family of seven children; Ruth, Robert, John, James, Elizabeth, Chris, and Mary.

Robert was also preceded in death by his son Chris.

Robert was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren. Their names are Isaac, Dustin, Elizabeth, Ivy, David, Rebecca, Sean, Nick, Natalie, Claire, and Daniel.

He was also the proud Great Grandfather of 14. Alexandra, Jack, Henry, Lucy, Charlotte, Philip, Jayden, Chloe, Max, Ariel, Miriam, Olivia, Benjamin, and Landon.

Robert was ordained as a Lutheran minister in the year 1948 and served congregations in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Seymour, Indiana.

Robert then joined the United States Navy and became a member of the Chaplain Corp in the early 1950s. He ultimately achieved the rank of Captain and was awarded with the prestigious Legion of Merit (and several other commendations) during his 20 year career in the Navy.

After leaving the military, Robert served the Lutheran Church in California as an Interim Pastor at multiple locations throughout the state. During this ministry he worked closely with his wife Kathy as they strengthened congregations which were awaiting new Pastoral leadership.

Bob was an avid fisherman, bowler, history buff, bridge player, and sports fan, with a special affinity for baseball.
