ROGERS, TERRY

1936-2024

Terry Rogers, a loving husband and father with a song for every occasion, passed away peacefully in June 2024.

Terry had a warm “Hiya” and a big smile for everyone. With a twinkle in his eye and a penchant for dad jokes, he always knew how to lighten the mood. His stories, whether true or exaggerated, were always told with flair. Terry’s love of music and singing started as a young boy, continued with high school drama, carried through his days with the Yale Glee Club and the Augmented Seven, and echoed at Navy parties, family Christmases, and his cherished choir at Coronado Presbyterian Church. Always on the go and up for a good time, his holiday Tom & Jerry parties were legendary.

Terry was the youngest of five, born in 1936 to Ella and Philip Rogers in a small town in Washington. He grew up on a farm, graduated as valedictorian, and earned a Navy scholarship to Yale. After college, he went through flight school and became an aviator, flying S2 RAFS off of the USS Yorktown. His Navy service from 1958 to 1966 landed him in Coronado. After the Navy, he began a career as a CPA but missed the excitement of the skies. Terry flew with United Airlines for 28 years, taking his wife, Francis, and the family on epic journeys around the globe, including trips to Russia, Wales, South Africa, Guatemala, and Brazil to sing with the Yale Alumni Chorus. When not traveling, he split his time between Coronado, CA, and Orcas Island, WA, where he and his kids built a rustic cabin that the family could enjoy for generations.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He leaves behind his wife, Francis, his kids, Kristin (CHS ’86), Marisa (CHS ’91), Bill (CHS ’92), and grandkids, Alexandra, Victoria, Daemon (CHS ’23), Booker (CHS ’26), and Katherine.

The family fondly remembers joining him for his final United flight before retirement, watching him say goodbye to each passenger with a big smile.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Terry’s love of music with a donation in his name to the musical program at Coronado School Foundation’s Band and Choir Programs at https://www.csfkids.org/you-can-help/donate.html.
