SMITH, ROBERT D

Robert D. Smith passed away December 26th at his home in Benicia. He was born in Toledo, Ohio and lived there for many years. He has called Benicia his home for the past 41 years. He worked as a Maintenance Machinist for over 40 years, most of those years with either Zellerbach, Hills Bros and Hobart.
Robert served in the United States Navy from 1951-1954 during the Korean War.
While living in Toledo, Robert was the photographer for his high school year and was part of at least two singing groups, The Page Boys & The Pages. He was part of a group that won a singing contest on the radio in the early 50’s. He was also an accomplished artist, including drawing a portrait of each of his three children.
He met his wife Barbara at Walgreens in Alameda and they were married for 70 years last June. She preceded him in death last August. He is survived by his children Dan (Karen) Smith, Mike Smith and Laurie (Dwayne) Hansen; grandchildren Raye, Sara, Jakob, Nicole, Chad & Kyle and his great grandchildren Anthony, Lilianna, Donovan, Isiah, Zane, Slade & Kori.
