SURAWSKI, JOSEPH

1946 – 2022

Joseph Surawski, age 75, of Lynn, died Saturday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a lengthy battle with COPD. He was the beloved husband of Anne (Ringer) Surawski, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Boleslaw and Helen (Bialek) Surawski. He was raised in Lawrence and Lynn and was a 1964 graduate of Lynn Trade School.
Joseph served in the United States Navy, stationed in California aboard the aircraft carriers USS Hancock and USS Yorktown. He worked as a toolmaker for General Electric in Lynn until his retirement in 2010. Joseph enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and sports. One of his greatest feats was hiking the Presidential Range in New Hampshire including Mount Washington. He also won several Gold & Bronze Pin Awards from the Division of Fisheries & Wildlife for Freshwater Fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children; Eric Surawski and his wife Jill of Windham, ME and Jo-Anne McRae and her partner William Griffith of Wilmington; three grandchildren; Samuel Surawski, Brianna Surawski and Spencer Talbot; three step-grandchildren; Alec Morton, Ayden Morton, and William “J.J.” Griffith, Jr.; his cousin, Sr. Anne Marie Moran of Albany, NY, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful neighbors who have become family. He was the brother of the late William Surawski.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 9AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St (Rt 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, Lynn at 10AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM.
