During this year’s reunion, we will reflect on the many rolls the U.S.S. Yorktown played throughout her life and is still playing today! It all started at New Port News Virginia where she was built in just 18 months and launched April 15th 1943. After being retrofitted at the Pueget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1952 her designation changed to CVA and she began a new role. Entering the Pueget Sound yards yet again in 1957 she became the CVS and played a crucial role during the Cold War and Vietnam. Finally, in 1975 the Ship arrived at Patriots Point and still plays a vital role in educating the public and more importantly America’s youth the meaning of patriotism and service to country.
