1943 – 2024

George Jonathan Balogas, 80, was born on July 21, 1943, to the late George and Shirley Balogas. He entered eternal rest on March 15, 2024.
Beloved husband of Lynne (nee Young) for nearly 55 years; loving father of Jill (John) Grillo and Kristen (Lawrence) Daher; cherished grandfather of Joy and Justin Daher and special grandfather to his grandpup Charles. Brother to Tom (Diane) Balogas: brother-in-law to Al Young, Bobbie (Bob) Bryant; uncle to Jody (Jason) Weiss, Carrie (Tim) Isoniemi and Allison (Michael) Murray; and cousin to Barb (Denny) Fitz and friend to many.
George graduated from Westlake High School in 1961 and soon after joined the United States Navy in 1963 as an Aerographer’s Mate. He dedicated six years of service in the Navy, encompassing four years of active duty and two years in the Naval Reserve. He was stationed in Washington D.C. and then served aboard the USS Yorktown CVS-10 in Long Beach, California. George was exceptionally proud to serve his country as a United States Navy Sailor. After his service, George enjoyed a successful career as an IT Manager for over 34 years, where he made lifelong friends.
George was known for his quick wit, caring and compassionate nature, and his strong work ethic. He had a knack for fixing and creating things with his hands. George found much happiness spending time with his loved ones, traveling, camping, boating, fishing and spending summers at the lake. He owned many cars throughout his life, but his prized possession was his Mustang convertible which he loved cruising around town in with Lynne.
George’s family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life at the visitation on Thursday, March 21st from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22nd at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Falls Church, 25615 Bagley Road, Olmsted Falls, Ohio 44138. After the church service we will process back to Sunset Memorial Park to George’s final place of rest.
