1930 – 2025
Hollis “Bud” Burridge, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, loyalty and strength.
Born to Salvation Army officer immigrants from Newfoundland, Bud’s life was shaped by movement, service and purpose. He met the love of his life, Betty, at a Salvation Army camp—a beginning that would grow into a lifelong partnership filled with joy, music and deep devotion.
A proud Navy veteran, Bud married while stationed in Memphis. After the birth of their first child, Bud, he left the service and enrolled at Purdue University, studying electrical engineering. With a growing family, Bud began his career with Westinghouse, eventually welcoming three more children – Sue, Margaret and Lenny. He built a successful career, moving to Machine Products Corporation, where his talent and work ethic continued to shine.
But his life was never just about work. Bud’s true passions were his family and his music. He was active in church and music ministries. He faithfully returned each summer—even into his 80s—to the Salvation Army music camp of his youth, attending with his siblings until his children lovingly joined him in his final two summers.
When Betty’s health declined, Bud retired early to care for her—becoming the most tender and dedicated caregiver imaginable. After her passing, he took a job at Walmart to stay active and engaged in his community.
His devotion to his family never wavered. He moved to Tennessee to be near his first grandchild, Carly, and stayed closely connected to his siblings and in-laws throughout his life. In fact, both his older sister, Ruth and younger brother, Len, spoke with him on the day he passed—proof of the deep, lifelong bonds he care for with his time and attention.
Bud was many things: a veteran, an engineer, a volunteer, a husband, a father. But most of all, he was an example. He showed his children how to live with integrity and purpose. His was a life shaped by love, not ambition. His greatest legacy is the one he lived each day—with kindness, humility, and a deep sense of what really matters.
And for those lucky enough to know him, he could always bring a smile—even in the middle of a disagreement. As one family story goes, during a classic road trip exchange between Betty and Bud, she finally exclaimed, “Bud, you know it makes me mad that you always have to have the last word!” The car was quiet… for about 15 minutes. Then Bud gently turned and said with a smile, “Betty, you’re right… I do have to have the last word.” And off they went, down the road—together.
Bud is survived by his siblings Len and Ruth. His children, Hollis “Bud” Burridge Jr. and his wife Kayla, Sue Price, Margaret Boss and her husband Sherman, Lenny Burridge and his wife Susan, Carly Guillard (granddaughter) and her husband James, Matt Burridge (grandson) and his partner Sami, and Kai Burridge (grandson)
All will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.
