Thomas Edward Hewitt

1932 – 2025

Thomas “Ed” Hewitt was born in Waco, Texas. Parents, Thomas Hewitt and Pauline Gipson Hewitt, along with their three children, Ed, Helon, and Ralph moved to Vancouver, Washington, in the early 1940s. Ed attended Shumway Junior High, Vancouver High School, and Clark College. While attending Clark, he joined the Navy and was proud to serve on the CV-10 Yorktown Carrier. Ed married Shirley Pesznecker with whom he had three children, Miriam, Laurie, and Michael. Upon returning to Vancouver after leaving the Navy, Ed went back to Clark College to finish his associate’s degree.
After a few years with the Vancouver Police Department, he joined the Washington State Patrol. During his 31 years with WSP, teaching and training safety laws was very rewarding to him. After a short retirement, Sergeant Ed returned to WSP working as property and evidence custodian for 10 years. During his career with WSP, he married Jeanette Taylor. Ed and Jeanette loved to travel to the East Coast taking secondary highways whenever possible. Ed believed in community service and was a member of multiple Lions Clubs and various Veterans Organizations.
Ed will be missed by his loving wife, Jeanette; and children, Miriam, Laurie, Michael; stepdaughter, Julie; and brother, Ralph. Ed was predeceased by his parents, sister, Helon, and stepson, Karlin.
